The market is free to walk through, so a tour is about context: the history, the quieter corners and tastings. Announced opening for 2026 is Friday 27 November; check the dates on the city’s official Christmas site. Weekend evenings are the most crowded.
The historic island is small and mostly car-free, so you can see the main sights alone. A guide pays off for the stories behind them. Guided walks start at €15 for one hour and mostly cost €20–40 for two.
Colmar is about 70 km away and roughly 30 minutes by regional train, so doing it alone costs only a ticket. A group day earns its price for the wine villages and Haut-Koenigsbourg castle, which are harder to reach without a car.
